What to pack for UK?!

First of, congratulations on getting a place in a British university! You now have first hand information from a University of Hertfordshire student. Most of the information provided can be applied although you are not going to UH.

Things to pack/ not to pack according to a UH student!

1. Do not pack a lot of clothes.
- Just pack a few long sleeves, jacket, jeans etc
- Bring more long pants
- NO need to bring a lot of heat tech from Uniqlo! Honest! Just bring a few of the heat tech shirts.

2.  Pack your stationeries if you are the picky kind!
- stationeries and bookstores here are meh. Really meh. Bookshops back home in Malaysia is better. Our bookshops have everything.

3. Do not bring cooking utensils eg pots, pans, plates
- Gather a group of 4 friends and buy a set of four mugs for about 1 pound in Tesco! We regretted
not doing that, and it was so nice too!
- You can get a ton of cheap utensils from Asda and Tesco

4. Do not bring soap and shampoo
- Shampoo and soap here are gooooood enough. And cheap. Cheap is important. Cheap cheap good good as my aunt says.
- But bring your own facial cleanser if you cannot use any other facial cleanser that you use.
The brands available in Boots may be different from back home.

5. Do not bring a bedding pack (bedsheets, pillowcases, duvet etc)
- Get nice ones in Primark.
- The ones in Asda is fine.
- If you want to spend more get from Marks & Spencer.
- Duvet and pillows from Primark or Asda are good too.

6. Do not pack food. Please. Wasting your space.
- We have the Asian store beside Asda.
- If you cannot live without Malaysian food, you probably should not study in UK. The purpose to
study overseas is to experience different cultures, it’s not supposed to feel like home. It will soon feel like home.

7. Do not bring winter clothes from Malaysia
- The ones in Malaysia are expensive and don’t keep you warm well
- If you can, invest in a coat that is more than 60 percent wool when you get to UK. (If you can, get
from Zara.) Wool keeps you warm even if you're drenched.
- I'll recommend getting a wool coat with hoodie (refer to number 8 for reason why)
- You can bring one scarf from home. Scarves here are cheaper and prettier so if you want more you can buy in UK. By the way, UH is near the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio. You can get a scarf
there if you’re a Potterhead.

8. Do not bring umbrella(s).
- It is pointless battling the winds here. Your umbrella will turn inside out and you're drier with a good hoodie/ windbreaker. It rains a lot in UK but the rain is really just drizzles.
- If you really want an umbrella, invest in the ones from Marks & Spencers, not Primark although it's cheap.

Bottomline: Primark is the place to go
